The School District of Lee County is excited to announce that East Lee County High School Assistant Principal Kristin Stevens is a finalist for Florida’s Assistant Principal of the Year. Stevens was named the School District’s 2024 Assistant Principal of the Year in November and entered into the state competition.

“I am very humbled to represent the Jaguar staff and school community in this way,” Stevens said after learning she was a finalist. “I am proud to be part of a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to thinking creatively, working diligently, and prioritizing our students. Our students deserve the best we have to offer, and I am honored to serve and represent this team as we work toward that goal.”

Stevens has been Assistant Principal at East Lee County High School since 2020. Her leadership has helped increase the graduation rate from 72% to 95.1% for the Class of 2023. She also serves as a mentor for aspiring leaders in her school building.

“It is an honor to work with such a dedicated professional like Ms. Stevens,” said East County High School Principal Tony Allen. “Regardless of the situation, she always prioritizes student success. Her commitment and leadership helped us accomplish the highest graduation rate in school history.”

The Florida Department of Education will announce the 2024 Assistant Principal of the Year later this month. The other finalists are John Michael Chaires from Putnam County and Holli Winter from St. John’s County.

The School District has had one previous winner of Florida’s Assistant Principal of the Year. Kelly Stedman was the 2016 recipient for her leadership at James Stephens Elementary School.
